The New Year's Nutcracker ballet will be shown on the stage of the Dubai Opera on the eve of the winter holidays and Christmas - from December 4 to 7, 2019 - performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater named after P.I. Tchaikovsky.
In Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, the retelling of the joys of the serene world of childhood is surprisingly combined with the composer's deep philosophical thoughts about life and death, about the beauty of exploits in the name of love and happiness.
The Nutcracker libretto was composed by Marius Petipa based on the novel by the German romantic Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, which describes Christmas evening in a small German town. To this fabulous story, Tchaikovsky wrote wonderful music that can make adults and children believe in a miracle. Tchaikovsky followed Petipa’s scenario plan in his work.
But he revealed and expressed in music the meaning of the tale much deeper. The composer created a symphonic poem about a girl with a pure soul, who is on the verge of adulthood, seeking to defeat evil on the way to her future happiness, which she dreams of so much. In her fantasies, the funny and ugly doll The Nutcracker turns into a handsome prince who defeated the mouse army. Music vividly and figuratively reveals the world of children, their fantasies, fun games, fairy dreams, sometimes disturbing, joyful.
