The famous UAE billionaire opposed the ban on WhatsApp calls

A well-known Dubai businessman asks to lift the ban on calls on WhatsApp and Skype in the UAE.

Khalaf Al Habtur, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, a well-known UAE billionaire, urged telecommunications companies to unblock VoIP services so that residents of the United Arab Emirates can make free WhatsApp and Skype calls.

In his address, he emphasized that the telecommunication companies Etisalat and du should allow VoIP calls, since the UAE strives to become the number one country in everything, including in the communications sector.

"Many people use WhatsApp and Skype all over the world for free, but not in my country. Telecommunications companies in the UAE block them, so I would like to appeal to the management and directors of these companies to lift the ban and allow everyone to use them," Al said Habtur in a video statement released on Sunday.

VoIP calls through international services were blocked by telecommunications companies in the UAE. For residents of the country have developed alternatives provided by local telecommunications service providers.

Al Ittihad reported earlier this year that the UAE telecommunications industry regulator is in talks with Microsoft and Apple, focusing on the potential lifting of the ban on Skype and FaceTime calls.
