Flydubai pays compensation to relatives of victims

The court ordered flydubai to pay compensation to the children of a couple who died in a plane crash.

A Dubai court ordered flydubai to pay 800,000 dirhams to children of a couple who died in a plane crash in Rostov-on-Don in 2016.

It should be noted that the court ruling in Dubai is the first such decision in the judicial practice of the UAE. The plane crash in Rostov-on-Don killed 62 lives. The airline was also obliged to pay 9% per annum (the total percentage compensating for the delay in payment). Recall that the lawsuit in which the decision was made was filed one year and four months ago.

Flight FZ981 crashed on March 19, 2016. Pilots tried to land in bad weather at the Rostov-on-Don airport, as a result of the accident, all 55 passengers on board, as well as 7 crew members, were killed. The competent authorities of the Russian Federation are currently preparing the final technical report on the accident.

The children of the deceased couple from Russia were represented in court by the lawyer Mohammed Al Hashimi. Initially, young people filed a claim for compensation in the amount of 74 million dirhams.

“We will undoubtedly file a second lawsuit for more compensation,” the lawyer said, “the children have suffered invaluable moral damage that cannot be made up for by all the money in the world.”

“Now we want to get acquainted with the full text of the court’s decision in order to understand the reason why the court reduced the amount of payment, after studying the verdict, we intend to file a second lawsuit,” added Mr. Al Hashimi.

Representatives of flydubai said they would pay compensation established by the court, "flydubai expresses its condolences to the families of the victims - this is a great grief, we are ready to bear responsibility and fulfill all the requirements of the court."

Al Hashimi's lawyer has filed five more lawsuits with the Dubai Legal Department for monetary compensation on behalf of the families of the victims. If these claims are rejected by the department, they will also be sent to court.
