On the main highway of Dubai there will be another paid section

In the near future, the Dubai road authorities plan to make tolls for another section of the main highway of the city paid.

The Dubai Traffic and Transport Authority (RTA) is planning to open a new Salik framework (Salik) in the near future to automatically charge for travel on the them. Sheikh Zayed at the Energy metro station.

The new Salik framework will begin work after completion of construction work on bridges and overpasses at the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Highway and Al Yalaes Street in the direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Highway.

Last month, the RTA announced that work was 85 percent completed and the facility would be commissioned on September 15, 2018. Officials later announced that the framework would be launched on October 24.

“Opening the Salik framework in Jebel Ali will allow us to split the traffic flow from the Jebel Ali Free Economic Zone to Sharjah and other northern emirates,” said RTA Head Mattar Al Thayer.

“Motorists will be able to take other routes: Emirates Highway, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Highway, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Highway and Al Khail Highway."

The new Salik frame will be the seventh in Dubai. It is expected that it will reduce traffic to the center of Dubai from Abu Dhabi, Jebel Ali and Dubai Investment Park, redistributing traffic on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Highway and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Highway.

According to Mr. Al Thayer, it is expected that after the framework is operational, traffic on Sheikh Zayed Highway will be reduced by 25%, as many residents will switch to public transport: metro and buses.

According to experts, the new Salik framework will bring RTA more than 300 million dirhams (US $ 81.9 million) per year.

It is estimated that Dubai will receive about 2 billion dirhams (US $ 544.4 million) per year from levying fares on some sites. The proceeds received allowed the Department of Roads and Transport to close the previously received loan in the amount of $ 800 million.

It is worth noting that the authorities of Abu Dhabi also plan to open toll sections of the road, currently in the capital there are complex photo and video recordings to identify cars with expired registrations.
