Dubai Increases Main Traffic Fee

In Dubai, the fee for movement along the main highway - the Sheikh Zayed Highway - has been increased.

Dubai, UAE. The Dubai Roads and Transport Committee officially divided the Salik - Al Safa and Al Barsha gates: starting today, February 19, each time you drive under each frame, a charge of four dirhams will be charged.

It is worth recalling that previously the fee was charged once in case of traveling under two Salik frames in one direction for one hour. Thus, the Dubai transport authorities decided to unload the emirate’s main highway from transport. “Sheikh Zayed’s highway is the emirate’s hub, which is well served by the red metro line, which is 52 km long and has 28 stations on them. In addition, there are 12 bus routes (156 buses) operating 1400 flights a day.”

The decision was the result of studies of traffic on Sheikh Zayed Highway and coincided with the completion of important infrastructure projects on an alternative highway - Muhammad bin Zayed Highway, where, in particular, the important Al Joudh interchange was recently opened, as well as the continuation of the highway towards Abu- Dhabi.

According to the committee, the introduction of an additional fee will encourage drivers to choose an alternative route, for example, the Al Khail highway, which will help reduce the load on the highway, on which the most important business centers with offices of international companies are located.
