A new type of insurance for domestic workers will protect the interests of residents of the UAE

In the United Arab Emirates, a new type of domestic service insurance is being introduced to protect employers from financial losses in unforeseen situations.

The UAE Ministry of the Interior, together with Axa Green Crescent, is introducing a new type of insurance for domestic workers, which will protect employers from financial losses if the employee is lost, does not pass a medical test to extend the visa or die.

The insurance policy extends to maids, drivers and servants, whose salaries are financed by citizens and residents aged 18 to 64 years, reports Gulf News.

The minimum annual contribution for this type of insurance will be 100 dirhams ($ 27.2). It covers three cases of disappearance, failure to undergo medical tests and transportation of the body.

The insurance company will act on behalf of the employer and complete all necessary procedures, as well as pay 5 thousand dirhams ($ 1360) in case of death of the employee or his medical unsuitability. Transportation costs will be covered if the employee “escapes” from the employer.

This initiative was developed in accordance with the adoption by the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan of 2017 as the Year of Charity, the report said. The insurance program also aims to support individuals and companies to promote social responsibility.

Axa Green Crescent is headquartered in Abu Dhabi. The company is part of the AXA Group, a world leader in insurance and asset management. It was created as a result of AXA's strategic alliance with the Kanoo Group and the Green Crescent Insurance Company (GCIC).
