Hublot "MAGIC GOLD"

The watch company Hublot introduced the world its new patent - Magic Gold ("Magic Gold").

Work on the project began three years ago under the leadership of Hublot CEO Mr. Jean-Claude Beaver and Professor Andreas Mortensen, Head of the Laboratory of Mechanical Metallurgy EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne). As a result of research, an alloy of 18 carat gold was developed, which in its density is harder than hardened steel. The alloy is proudly called “Magic Gold”. Hublot is so far the only user of innovative development.

The main disadvantage of a conventional gold watch is the need for periodic polishing and grinding of the case. Gold is a soft metal that is prone to scratches. Because of this, 24-carat gold is rarely used in watchmaking, and 18-carat gold has only recently been used by watchmakers. Historically, 14-carat gold has become the most popular for creating watch cases, as it is very difficult to scratch them.

The Hublot project was conceived to solve the problem of scratches when using gold of higher fineness, namely, 18 carat gold. Nesm

Since the work on “Magic Gold” has not been completed yet, the composite has passed the experimental stage, and the watch manufactory expects to launch the watch in cases from Magic Gold already at the Baselworld 2012 exhibition.
